Swedish snus gains ground in the US

Swedish Match has received the go-ahead from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to sell eight types of snus in the country.

The approval for the new products comes at the same time as the snus manufacturer Swedish Match is awaiting an FDA decision that will allow snus to be classified as a  “modified risk tobacco product”.

Swedish Match is seeking permission to market the Swedish snus with the text, “no tobacco product is safe, but this product entails considerably lower risks to health than cigarettes”.

The decision from the FDA was expected in September but has been postponed and it is currently unclear when the final announcement will come.
