Swedish snus reaches new heights in Switzerland
Sweden has become the leading exporter of smokeless tobacco to Switzerland, according to the latest statistics from Swiss customs.
A total of 50 tonnes of snus was exported from Sweden to Switzerland in 2014, meaning Sweden has now overtaken Belgium as the main supplier of smokeless tobacco to the country.
Patrik Hildingsson, communications manager at snus producer Swedish Match, said he believed that more people in Switzerland were switching from cigarettes to snus for health reasons.
“The debate about harmful tobacco has gained momentum and the use of snus is increasing at the expense of cigarettes,” he told the Göteborgs-Posten newspaper.
