{"id":5055,"date":"2019-10-18T12:08:00","date_gmt":"2019-10-18T10:08:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/snusforumet.se\/?p=5055"},"modified":"2021-10-06T13:13:16","modified_gmt":"2021-10-06T11:13:16","slug":"is-finland-about-to-legalise-snus-sales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/snusforumet.se\/en\/is-finland-about-to-legalise-snus-sales\/","title":{"rendered":"Is Finland about to legalise snus sales?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>According to a new survey by Finish public broadcaster Yle, an increasing number of&nbsp;Finnish members of parliament now want to lift the country&#8217;s snus ban and legalise snus sales.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finland banned the sale and import of snus when the country joined the EU in 1995.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, about <a href=\"https:\/\/thl.fi\/sv\/web\/thlfi-sv\/statistik\/statistik-efter-amne\/alkohol-droger-och-beroende\/tobak\">five percent of Finnish men say that they use snus<\/a>. At the same time, 13 percent of the population smokes, while only about eight percent smoke in Sweden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Swedish People&#8217;s Party and the True Finns&#8217; Youth Union have previously pushed for the import and sale of snus in Finland to be legalised. <a href=\"https:\/\/svenska.yle.fi\/artikel\/2019\/09\/22\/allt-fler-riksdagsledamoter-vill-legalisera-snuset-smugglingen-har-gatt-overstyr\">According to Yle&#8217;s survey<\/a>, representatives from virtually all Finnish parliamentary parties are now in favour of a move to legalise snus sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A great benefit for public health<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One argument put forward for legalising snus sales in Finland is that it would increase tax revenue of up to \u20ac40 million annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhy should we let Sweden take care of the tax revenue?\u201d, Harry Harkimo from the Movement Now party told Yle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patrik Str\u00f6mer, Secretary General of the Association of Swedish Snus Manufacturers , welcomed the news.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf Finland pushed to end the ban on snus, it could lead to the EU and other countries reconsidering.
