First published in 2011, The Art of Suppression: Pleasure, Panic and Prohibition since 1800<\/em><\/a> by author and commentator Christopher Snowdon, looks at several attempts by policymakers and activists to enact various bans over the last two centuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To mark the ten-year anniversary of the book, Snowdon and Snusforumet have joined together to revisit the book\u2019s chapter detailing the story behind the EU snus ban. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to an exclusive interview with Snusforumet, Snowdon has granted permission to have the book’s chapter on snus published on Snusforumet so that more people can be made aware of what he calls a “shameful episode” in the EU’s history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Part 1 – Snus: If you can, ban<\/a> (June 30)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Oral Snuff (Safety) Regulations had a profound effect on the UK\u2019s one and only manufacturer of oral snuff\u2014US Tobacco Inc.\u2014which found itself criminalised and sent home by the same government that had subsidised and courted it just four years earlier. Part 3 – Harm reduction<\/a> (July 14)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Part 4 -The alliance against snus<\/a> (July 21)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Part 5 – The report that nearly was<\/a> (July 28)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
